Introduction

As early settlers worked to develop North Bay, protection from fire quickly became a pressing need. A bylaw to create a fire department was passed on March 24, 1893.

The development of North Bay and the lives of local residents have been impacted by fires in many ways. Fires have claimed the homes, businesses, and even lives of North Bay residents.

This exhibit explores the impact of the North Bay fire department through images from a few of North Bay’s most memorable fires.
