In 1992, Nipissing University  College, along with the Faculty of Education, received its charter allowing it to become an independent degree-granting institution known as Nipissing University.

From its humble roots, Nipissing University went on to provide post-secondary education to students from across Northeastern Ontario and beyond. Nipissing University granted over 18,000 degrees from 1992–2012.
