The students at the North Bay Normal School were referred to as “Normalities”. The students were predominantly women, which demonstrates how the teaching profession was viewed as a “woman’s profession” since women were seen as caregivers and the most capable of educating society’s youth.

In 1953, North Bay Normal School changed its name to “North Bay Teachers’ College”.
