North Bay’s Musical Roots
North Bay has been home to a wide variety of talented musicians since its founding in 1882. Two extensive local collections, The Falconi Collection and the Music City Collection, form the basis of this online exhibition.
North Bay Concert Band member, Richard Falconi, documented the history of the North Bay Concert Band and its origins, which he traced as far back as 1913. With no available resources at the time, he thoroughly compiled this history through extensive research—writing letters, conducting interviews, making phone calls, referring to personal scrapbooks, and delving into The Daily Nugget microfilms.
The result of his dedication was a remarkable four-volume collection which traces the history of many local bands and musicians. Richard stated that musicians followed a long legacy of gathering to “provide an opportunity for people to get together as a group and play music for the benefit of the community.”
The Music City Collection was formed by Roger and Reva Perreault, who ran Music City from 1997-2017. Over time, patrons brought in photographs of local musicians which led to the display of hundreds of framed photos on the walls of the store.
This exhibit includes photos and biographies of hundreds of local musicians and bands compiled from these collections as well as information from sources such as the North Bay Entertainer’s Hall of Fame and North Bay Nugget news articles.
