Vis-à-Vis: North Bay in Deed & Tale
Peter Handley's “Vis-À-Vis: North Bay in Deed & Tale” is an immersive telling of the story of our city as we celebrate its centennial in 2025.
A sports broadcaster, city council member, author, and driving force behind the City of North Bay's Municipal Heritage Committee, Handley's bona fides are unquestioned for the task of compiling a special project in concert with his beloved adopted city's centennial celebration.
At long last, Handley's North Bay centennial history book — gleaned from the transcripts of dozens of interviews he recorded over the years with North Bay's notables and newsmakers — is now available at the North Bay Museum and Callander Bay Heritage Museum for purchase.
“Vis-À-Vis: North Bay in Deed & Tale” is an official project of North Bay’s 100th birthday celebration. Handley says it takes a look at North Bay’s history "in a unique and interesting way and is told in the words of those who researched, lived through, took part in, wrote or spoke about various aspects of North Bay’s history."
The 650-page soft cover book contains historical photos in both colour and black and white, with transcriptions of 49 interviews with 44 prominent individuals in North Bay's story. Over its nine chapters, Handley covers topics such as the city's founding, its historians, North Bay happenings over the years, the local political sphere, the significance of aviation, law and order, Indigenous affairs, and the history of the land on which our city rests.
